MultiTool, Perpetual License Option Added to SoundMeter X 13
Following a major update to SignalScope X, which brought MultiTool access to all Tool Set license tiers, SoundMeter X version 13 also shares internal perpetual license purchase options in addition to the look and feel of Liquid Glass on iOS 26. SoundMeter X is the successor to the original, and most accurate, sound level meter app for iPhone.
What’s New at a Glance
- Perpetual licenses, now in-app — Buy once, use indefinitely — no separate app required.
- Redesigned UI — The tab view is gone, replaced by a cleaner tool sidebar menu on iPhone and iPad. Liquid Glass appearance supported on iOS/iPadOS 26+.
- Faber Accounts — Create an account to register previous purchases and unlock upgrade pricing on the SoundMeter Pro 2026 perpetual license.
- MultiTool access — Previously only available in SignalScope apps, the MultiTool is now available with any Pro license in SoundMeter X (perpetual license or subscription).
New Licensing Options
Perpetual Licenses: From its original launch in 2018, SoundMeter X has been subscription-based for licensing pro tools and features. For perpetual licensing (pay once, use indefinitely), we published separate apps (e.g. SoundMeter Pro 2020/2022). One of the downsides to this approach was that there was no option for us to offer discounts on new versions for customers who had purchased an earlier one. This is no longer the case. A SoundMeter Pro 2026 license is now available within SoundMeter X via in-app purchase. The in-app store has been re-designed to offer both subscriptions and perpetual licenses using the latest UI and StoreKit frameworks from Apple.
Faber Accounts: In order to offer discounted upgrade pricing for existing perpetual-license customers, we have created Faber Accounts. With the most recent updates to the 2020 and 2022 versions of the SoundMeter Pro apps, it is possible to create an account and register the app with that account to establish eligibility for upgrade pricing on select new products, including the new perpetual license available in SoundMeter X. Faber Accounts can now be created on the newly updated FaberAcoustical.com, as well.
Faber Account access has been added to SoundMeter X 13 to check eligibility for special discounts on in-app purchases. It’s important to note that creating or signing in to a Faber Account remains optional to the user. There is no requirement to sign into an account when operating SoundMeter X. A primary benefit of using an account is that it gives us the ability to offer discounted pricing to our customers in ways we couldn’t before.
What does a perpetual license include long-term? In the new version of SoundMeter X, the Pro 2026 perpetual license will receive the same upgrades as those added to corresponding subscription tiers through calendar year 2028. After 2028, the tools and features included in 2026 license will continue to be maintained in future versions of SoundMeter X.
UI Overhaul
Tool Menu: Upon launching version 13 for the first time, you’ll immediately see that the tab view has been removed from SoundMeter X and replaced with a tool sidebar menu. Now, to switch tools, tap on the toolbox icon in the top toolbar to open the tool menu and then tap on the name of the desired tool. On iPad, the tool menu can be kept visible or hidden, as desired. On most iPhone models, it will completely cover the rest of the UI until a tool is selected.
The Multitool: Another significant change in version 13 is that the MultiTool is now available with any Pro license. The MultiTool enables the operation of multiple subtools simultaneously, as well as the saving and loading of subtool configurations — convenient for setting up, and switching between, multi-tool analyses or measurements for different projects. The MultiTool supports the addition of any other tool as a subtool in the current configuration.
In-app Store: When it comes to choosing or managing your subscription or perpetual license, the in-app store has moved to the Info menu (accessed by tapping the info icon–a lower-case letter i within a circle–on the right side of the app’s top toolbar). Once in the Info menu, you see that the second item in the menu has a shopping cart icon and indicates your active subscription or license (more on this, below). Tap this item to access the in-app store.
Liquid Glass: Finally, note that SignalScope’s UI also now supports the new Liquid Glass appearance on iOS/iPadOS 26 or newer.
SoundMeter X 13 includes numerous other under-the-hood improvements to make it better than ever.
