SignalScope X 13 Arrives With Direct STI/STIPA Support, Buy-Once Licensing, and a Rebuilt Interface
SignalScope X 13 Is Here — and It’s a Big One
Version 13 is the most significant update to SignalScope X since its launch. It brings a long-awaited STI/STIPA measurement tool, a redesigned interface, and a fundamental change to how you can license the app — including perpetual licenses for the first time inside SignalScope X itself. Whether you’re a longtime customer or just discovering SignalScope, there’s a lot to dig into.
What’s New at a Glance
- New STI/STIPA Analyzer — Full STI (Fast) and STIPA measurements, built to IEC 60268-16 Ed. 5.0. The most-requested feature in recent SignalScope history. (Pro Tool Set required)
- Perpetual licenses, now in-app — Buy once, use indefinitely — no separate app required. Available for Basic, Advanced, and Pro Tool Sets.
- Redesigned UI — The tab view is gone, replaced by a cleaner tool sidebar menu across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Liquid Glass appearance supported on iOS/iPadOS/macOS 26+.
- Faber Accounts — Create an account to register previous purchases, unlock upgrade pricing, and activate cross-platform licenses purchased on FaberAcoustical.com.
- MultiTool access expanded — Now available to Basic and Advanced subscribers, not just Pro.
- New Pro analyzer features — 1/9-octave spectrum, selectable filter slopes (O3/O5/O7), per-band output routing, and a standalone STI/STIPA signal generator.
New STI/PA Analyzer Tool
SignalScope X 13 finally delivers one of our most-requested features: a new STI/PA tool for measuring speech intelligibility with the Speech Transmission Index (as well as the Speech Transmission Index for public address systems). The STI/PA tool can perform direct Full (Fast) STI as well as direct STIPA measurements. It was developed according to IEC standard 60268-16, Edition 5.0 (2020-09). A Pro Tool Set license is required.
New Licensing Options
Perpetual Licenses: From its original launch in 2018, SignalScope X has been subscription-based for licensing the three available Tool Set tiers: Basic, Advanced, and Pro. For perpetual licensing (pay once, use indefinitely), we published separate apps (e.g. SignalScope Basic/Advanced/Pro 2022). One of the downsides to this approach was that there was no option for us to offer discounts on new versions for customers who had purchased an earlier one (e.g. SignalScope Basic/Advanced/Pro 2020). This is no longer the case. Perpetual licenses for each of the Tool Set tiers are now available within SignalScope X via in-app purchase. The in-app store has been re-designed to offer both subscriptions and perpetual licenses using the latest UI and StoreKit frameworks from Apple.
Faber Accounts: In order to offer discounted upgrade pricing for existing perpetual-license customers, we have created Faber Accounts. With the most recent updates to the 2020 and 2022 versions of the SignalScope apps, it is possible to create an account and register the app with that account to establish eligibility for upgrade pricing on select new products, including the new perpetual licenses available in SignalScope X. Faber Accounts can now be created on the newly updated FaberAcoustical.com, as well.
The creation of Faber Accounts also opens up a completely new avenue of license sales. It is now possible to purchase a cross-platform Basic, Advanced, or Pro Tool Set license on FaberAcoustical.com and activate that license in SignalScope X 13 by signing into your Faber Account. Cross-platform means that the license can be activated in SignalScope X on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Faber Account access has been added to SignalScope X 13 to check eligibility for special discounts on in-app purchases and to activate cross-platform licenses. It’s important to note that creating or signing in to a Faber Account remains optional to the user. There is no requirement to sign into an account when operating SignalScope X. A primary benefit of using an account is that it gives us the ability to offer discounted pricing to our customers in ways we couldn’t before.
What does a perpetual license include long-term? In the new version of SignalScope X, 2026 Tool Sets unlocked via perpetual license will receive the same upgrades as those added to corresponding subscription tiers through calendar year 2028. After 2028, the tools and features included in 2026 Tool Sets will continue to be maintained in future versions of SignalScope X (the licenses are, after all, perpetual).
UI Overhaul
Upon launching version 13 for the first time, you’ll immediately see that the tab view has been removed from SignalScope X on iPhone and iPad and replaced with a tool sidebar menu, similar to the one that was previously found only in the Mac version. Now, to switch tools, tap on the toolbox icon in the top toolbar to open the tool menu and then tap on the name of the desired tool. On iPad, the tool menu can be kept visible or hidden, as desired. On most iPhone models, it will completely cover the rest of the UI until a tool is selected.
Another significant change in version 13 is that the MultiTool is now available with Basic and Advanced Tool Set licenses, in addition to the Pro Tool Set. The MultiTool enables the operation of multiple subtools simultaneously, as well as the saving and loading of subtool configurations — convenient for setting up, and switching between, multi-tool analyses or measurements for different projects. The MultiTool supports the addition of any tool belonging to the currently active Tool Set as a subtool. If you load a configuration file that includes a tool from a higher Tool Set tier, you will be prompted to save a copy of the configuration without higher-tier tools (thus preserving the original).
When it comes to choosing or managing your subscription, the in-app store has moved to the Info menu (accessed by tapping the info icon–a lower-case letter i within a circle–on the right side of the app’s top toolbar). Once in the Info menu, you see that the second item in the menu has a shopping cart icon and indicates your active subscription or license (more on this, below). Tap this item to access the in-app store.
Finally, note that SignalScope’s UI also now supports the new Liquid Glass appearance on iOS/iPadOS/macOS 26 or newer.
New Pro Features
Pro users get several more additions worth highlighting:
- The Octave Analyzer supports a 1/9-octave spectrum, in addition to whole and 1/3-octaves.
- The Octave Analyzer allows the filter slope for all fractional-octave-band filters to be manually selected between O3 (Order 3), O5, and O7. The traditional O3 slope is 18 dB per octave attenuation. O5 is 30 dB/octave and O7 is 42 dB/octave.
- The Octave Analyzer allows the output of any of the fractional-octave-band filters to be routed to an available output channel.
- The Signal Generator tool now offers a STI/STIPA signal generator, which can be operated independently of the STI/PA tool.
SignalScope X 13 includes numerous other under-the-hood improvements to make it better than ever and to prepare it for exciting new tools and functionality in the days ahead.
