In addition to real-time analysis, SoundMeter can store acquired data, including measured sound levels, logged data, and supporting information, such as date, time, and location, in CSV (.csv) or tab-delimited text files (.txt), MAT-files, or high-resolution PDF images for later retrieval from your device. The Data Recorder tool can also save time data to audio files (in AIF, CAF, or WAV formats). A data file can be saved by tapping the action icon in the main toolbar at the top of the screen. You can enter a custom filename, which will be recalled each time you save another file. When a file already exists with the chosen filename, a numeric suffix will automatically be appended for fast and easy file saving without additional typing.
- Text files should be opened with UTF-8 text encoding (special symbols, like the "micro" symbol, might look strange, otherwise).
- When exporting data from the Octave tool, there is an option to keep a copy of the current frequency data in the plot. This means that the exported data will automatically be reloaded and added to the graph. Loaded measurements may be managed in the Octave tool's Options menu.
SoundMeter can share data in multiple ways. One is by running an http server on your device. By entering the server's local IP address in a web browser on your Mac or PC, you can download saved data files. Your device must have an active Wi-Fi network connection. You access the file server settings, and determine the correct IP address, by tapping on Data File Server in the main options screen.
If SoundMeter is able to determine the external IP address of your network, and if your local network router is properly configured, you can also access the data files on your device via the web.
SoundMeter also features a built-in file browser, which allows you to see which data files are still being stored on your device and delete them, if desired. This browser can also be accessed from the main options screen.
SoundMeter can also share files to other apps, including Files (iCloud Drive) and Dropbox. When viewing file details within SoundMeter, tap the Open In... button to be presented with a menu of options for sharing or otherwise interacting with the file. Within that menu, you may see options such as Save to Files or Copy to Dropbox (if you have Dropbox installed on your device).
The Level Meter can capture and share measured sound levels and supporting information, such as date and time, as well as the current GPS coordinates.
The Level Meter can also save sound levels as image files, or as overlays on new or existing photos in your photo library. The Level Meter can even use the built-in camera to capture an image associated with the current measurement, and the sound level can then be overlaid on top of the photo, along with any other information you enter in the Image Description text area.
Images are stored in the device's photo library, which is accessible from the built-in Photos app.
